Porsche GT2RS, the ultimate track weapon

There is no need to remind you of Porsche's outstanding record of achievements over the decades and of the always incredible performance of its cars.

When we talk about the manufacturer, we certainly think of the model that made its reputation: the 911.

It must be said that this car has never finished surprising us, despite the large number of versions that have seen the light of day and the technologies used (ranging from the classic 911 to the most energetic). The common point that links them all: the flat 6.

Today, as you can see in the title, we are going to talk about one of the most radical versions of the 911 that the XXI century has known, I named the GT2 RS.




Porsche's challenge has been completed with brio: at 54 years old (when the GT2RS was released), the 911 has had a completely crazy margin of progression! And it's not just a reheating!



But what is this UFO?

For video game lovers, this pissed off version of the 911 type 991 was unveiled at the 2017 E3 in Los Angeles (the world's largest video game show). This incredible car was on display in Forza 7. However, it was only making an appearance as no information about it was disclosed at the event.



We will have to wait for the Goodwood Festival of Speed to discover this model from A to Z. This car is crazy! It is the ultimate version of the 911 type 991: more powerful than the S, Turbo, GT3... It is the most powerful 911 ever produced!

The manufacturer from Stuttgart is not here to joke, and intends to impose it at the show before Ferrari and McLaren.



The engine came from another planet, the Flat 6 still present on the 911 (3.8L displacement), but this time accompanied by two turbos!

This engine has been pushed to 700 hp (at 7000 rpm), enough to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8s and reach 340 km/h in top speed. The torque is also impressive: 750 Nm from 2500 to 4500 rpm!



Like all 911s, we are in rear-wheel drive configuration with a self-locking axle. 700 ponies on the rear wheels are not made to fetch bread.






To keep the beast on the road and on the track, you need adapted shoes: 265/35 20" in the front and 325/30 21" in the rear! The brakes have also been chosen with the utmost care: ventilated and drilled carbon-ceramic discs (410mm at the front and 390mm at the rear), fixed calipers (6 pistons at the front and 4 pistons at the rear).

On the transmission side, the engine is coupled to a 7-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox.




Like its little sister, the GT3 RS, it has slatted vents (made of carbon fiber) on the front fenders, air intakes on the rear fenders as well as the front bumper with two huge openings.

Not to mention the huge carbon fiber spoiler at the rear of this fabulous body.


Several plastic parts have been reinforced with carbon fiber, a magnesium roof has also been installed, lowering the weight of the GT2 RS to 1470 kg. It is also possible to save 30kg by opting for the Weissach pack with the use of titanium for some parts (the model shown in the article has the pack).




This car is incredibly comfortable and fast on the track: enough to break the world lap record on the Nürburgring with a time of 6'47"30! This record was then broken by Lamborghini with its Aventador SVJ. But Porsche doesn't let itself be beaten and breaks the record with the driver Lars Kern on 14/06/2021 with a time of 6'40"33 with a track temperature of 41°C at sunset and an average speed of 185 km/h!



Each GT2 RS is produced to order (limited to 1000 units), as you can imagine the prices are commensurate with the exclusivity of the model and are close to 290,000 euros when it comes out! Expensive but price/performance wise, it is better placed than a hybrid supercar. Today on the second hand market, the price has risen exponentially: prices are between 300 000 and 500 000 euros!
