SF90 Stradale or the electrifying hypercar signed Ferrari

The XXIst century has allowed the automobile to surpass its limits and performances beyond all expectations. And it is thanks to the technological prowess that Man has been carrying out for years that we have been able to reach this point.

As we all know, the anti-pollution norms encourage and indirectly oblige car manufacturers to think "greener" in their new concept cars.

It is true that in the field of motor sports, it is difficult to go electric. I am the first one, and like 85% of the car enthusiasts, the smell of gasoline and the noise of the engines handicap us enormously to cross this step.

That's why many carmakers are opting for hybrid engines rather than 100% electric. This does not prevent some from offering both and even studying new fuels that are cleaner and less energy consuming than electric, such as Porsche with the Taycan (100% electric) and the 918 Spyder (hybrid).

Today, the article is about Italy, and more precisely about the brand with the prancing horse. It's about the SF90 Stradale from Ferrari:

This car is not just any car in terms of the Italian manufacturer. Indeed, it refers to the many years of existence of Scuderia Ferrari: 90! And yes, it is for the 90th anniversary of Ferrari that the first 1000 hp hypercar and rechargeable electric hybrid is born.

In Maranello, we are not here to laugh, we want a car that looks good, that has audacity and that offers the best of the technology so far developed by the brand with the prancing horse. And it is here that the whole world sees the incredible capacity of Ferrari to transfer the progress made in competition to the production cars homologated for roads and tracks.

As for the engine, the SF90 Stradale is powered by a 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 with direct injection and 780 hp! The most powerful V8 of the manufacturer. To this V8 are attached 3 electric motors (2 independent located at the front axle and the 3rd at the rear between the engine and the gearbox). The power of the car reaches 1000 hp and 800 Nm of torque at 6000 rpm (780 thermal + 220 electric hp), which allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5s, from 0 to 200 km/h in 6.7s and to reach 340 km/h in top speed.

For the record, the high-performance Li-ion battery that powers the three electric motors guarantees a range of 25 km in eDrive mode. Also, when the combustion engine is stopped, the two independent electric motors deliver enough power to drive up to a maximum speed of 135 km/h.


SF90 is also the name used for the Ferrari Formula 1 presented in 2019, driven by S.VETTEL and C.LECLERC. Our SF90 Stradale also has this DNA in the essence: always with the idea for Ferrari to transfer the technological advances of its racing cars to the production cars.

This hypercar is a hybrid, has 4 wheel drive, weighs less than 1.6t on the scale which gives it an impressive ratio of 1.57 kg/hp!

For more performance, a supercharged version of the SF90 Stradale is also available: the Assetto Fiorano. This last one being lightened with carbon fiber parts, Multimatic shock absorbers derived from the GT series race, a carbon spoiler allowing a 390 kg support on the ground at 250 km/h, you will have understood it a monster on the paper!

Above all, we must not overlook the design, which was pushed to the extreme by the Italian engineers. An active system (patented) at the rear allowing the control of the air flow in the upper part of the car has been developed in order to slow down the drag effect at high speed but also to increase the ground pressure in the turns. The aerodynamics have also been worked on in great detail.

A successful car on all levels, beautiful, powerful, efficient, a rule of three brilliantly fulfilled by Ferrari. Not bad for a hypercar with a combined fuel consumption of 6.0L/100km!

As you can probably imagine, on the price side we are at Ferrari: more than 440,000 euros for the basic version at its release in 2019. But that can easily reach the million euros with options and if you opt for the spider version.
